Watermelon fertiliser programme

Watermelon

Seventy days to a crop that is judged on sweetness. Potassium and clean soil decide both.

The crop

What watermelon asks of your soil.

Watermelon is a fast, high-value crop where quality is measured directly — brix, or sugar content, is what determines the price. Potassium supply during fruit sizing is the single largest nutritional lever on that number.

It is usually grown on light, sandy soils that drain quickly and hold very little, and those same soils carry a real Fusarium wilt risk that builds with repeated cropping.

🇲🇾 Ringkasan Bahasa Melayu

The challenges

Three things that cost Tembikai growers yield.

01

Sandy soil, low retention

Light soils lose nutrient rapidly, so a large single application often delivers far less to the plant than the invoice suggests.

02

Fusarium wilt

Repeated cucurbit cropping on the same ground builds Fusarium populations, and infected plants cannot be treated once symptoms appear.

03

Quality, not just yield

A heavy crop of low-brix fruit is a commercial failure. Nutrition through fruit sizing matters as much as total tonnage.

The programme

What we recommend for Tembikai.

Built to work alongside your existing fertiliser programme, not replace it outright.

NEXGROW
Foundation

Humic and fulvic acids raise nutrient-holding capacity in exactly the light soils that lose potassium fastest, supporting the sustained supply that brix depends on.

Questions

Tembikai growers often ask.

Which fertiliser is best for watermelon in Malaysia?+
For watermelon (Tembikai), we recommend NEXGROW bio-organic fertiliser alongside your existing programme. It carries over 50% organic matter, more than 20% humic and fulvic acid, and phosphate-solubilising bacteria above 10⁷ CFU per gram — processed aerobically in adherence to Malaysian Standard MS 1517:2012. It is designed to improve the efficiency of the nutrients you already apply rather than replace balanced nutrition.
How often should NEXGROW be applied to watermelon?+
The published NEXGROW Bio-Organic guidance is: Mixed during soil preparation, before planting: 500 g / m². The source does not give an additional application schedule for other stages. Ask our agronomy team about your soil and crop before adding applications.
Can I use it with my existing fertiliser programme?+
Yes. NEXGROW is designed to integrate with existing practices. Most growers begin with a trial block, keeping their normal programme running and adding NEXGROW alongside it, then compare results over a season before adjusting the balance.
