Fusarium oxysporum is one of the most damaging soil-borne pathogens in tropical agriculture. It enters through the roots, colonises the vascular system, and blocks water movement — the plant wilts from the inside. Once a plant is infected, no treatment brings it back.
Fusarium produces resting spores that survive in soil for years without a host, and it spreads readily through infected planting material, contaminated soil on boots and machinery, and drainage water. That combination is why an outbreak in one block so often becomes an outbreak across a farm.
Use clean, certified planting material. Improve drainage, because waterlogged soil dramatically increases infection risk. Clean tools and machinery between blocks. Avoid moving soil from infected areas. None of this is glamorous, and all of it matters more than any product.
Biologically active soil with good organic matter supports competitive beneficial microbes and produces less stressed plants. Suppressive soil is a genuine, well-documented line of defence — and it is built over seasons, not sprayed on.
